Oh, where do I begin? Halloween is over and the candy is mostly eaten but that’s no reason to put the costumes away or to stop buying more.
Here are some great reasons to continue to shop for costumes:
- Take advantage of big price reductions and buy your costume for next year now when you can get it for a really low price.
- Add your kids’ costumes to their toy chest so they can play dress up and pretend. Purchase a few more at after season prices. Children really love to create adventures with costumes. Princesses, superheroes and firemen are some favorites.
- Spice things up behind closed doors. The weather is getting colder and costumes are a great way to heat things up in the bedroom. There are many sexy role play costumes that will turn any day into a special occasion. A sexy French Maid, nurse or harem girl never gets old. Even something as simple as a sexy wig can add some excitement to your love life.
- School plays and Thanksgiving pagents are coming up. There is a large assortment of pilgram and indian costumes that parents and teachers can use to add life and excitement to a history lesson.
- Get a jump on Christmas. Santa, elf and sexy Christmas costumes are on sale now. It’s not too early to think about Christmas, just look at your local supermarkets and department stores. The isles are already lined with Christmas trimmings.
Costumes are fun for young and old all year long. No matter what the holiday, occasion, or event, you will be able to find and wear the perfect costume.
At Halloween, people of all ages like to dress up. Kids do it for the love of candy but grown ups for the love of parties.

Want to know how our house became the most popular house on the block every Halloween? Big candy! Not the little fun size but the real deal; the big Kahunas.
I grew up in a rural town. There were only two houses on my block. Needless to say, we never got any trick or treaters. So 10 years ago when my parents sold that house and moved into a huge subdivision loaded with kids Halloween finally became an official holiday. In their excitement, they decided to buy full sized candy bars. Dozens of Snickers, Hershey Bars, Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups and Twix Bars filled a bowl as big as the eyes of all the children who caught a glimpse of their jumbo treat.

My parents were overjoyed by the smiling facing and shouts of “that house has big candy!” and “Come-on! Hurry!” that they didn’t realize what they had gotten themselves into. The following year, neighbors commented how their kids were looking forward to coming back for some more big candy. The years that followed were filled with scenarios such as kids rushing the door like a stampede, modifying their costumes and trying to come back for seconds, and parents of trick or treaters telling my mom that they came from the other development because their kids heard at school about the house that gave out full size candy bars. I’m not kidding - from other developments! You’d think they were the only house on the planet that had big candy and that kids all over town only had this one chance every year to eat a big candy bar. Crazy!
Last year, mom moved to a retirement community and I moved into her house with my family. Since my mother is big on tradition and deep down just loves being known as the “house with the big candy”, we promised to keep the tradition of the big bars alive. And since I work for a company that specializes in Halloween costumes and accessories, I’ve got a few additional tricks up my sleeve. Maybe some spooky music and fake fog; perhaps a yard full of graves and ghouls. Come get the big candy now if you dare!
To give you a sense of what a big deal the big bars are, last year we bought 15 boxes of 12 (180 bars) and had to shut the lights and lock the door by 8pm because we ran out of candy. And that was in just 3 hours! Because Halloween falls on a Saturday this year we are estimating about 300 bars, crazy, right? But nevertheless, I like being the house with the big candy and this year will be better than ever thanks to all the Halloween props and decorations I’m buying from Costume SuperCenter.
This Halloween, how about making the trick or treating experience even more special by dressing up with your daughter. Whether you’re handing out candy or accompanying your daughter door to door, your added participation send the message to your daughter that you share her enthusiasm. There are so many adult costumes that match with kids costumes the combinations are innumerable.
Little girls idolize their moms and love to do things with them. Now that my daughter is a preteen, we look back on our special mother/daughter memories such as having tea parties with her and her stuffed animals, having spa days when I would polish her nails and she would polish my nails (and fingers and portions of the towel I rested my hands on). I would always dress up with her in her dress up clothes but we never had the chance to dress in costume together. Not she’s too mature for dressing up. If I could go back and do it again, here are some of the mother/daughter Halloween costumes I would pick:
I’m a fanatic for taking pictures. I wish I had some of those pictures to add to our family album. Kids grow so fast and you can’t get the time back. Even if you feel silly dressing up in matching costumes, its no more silly than dad feels while playing Barbie with his little girl. Your child will love it and you will be so happy you did it. Remember, it’s all about them.

I overheard earlier today that a customer enquired about purchasing $6000 worth of Banana Costumes because he’s organizing a big company-wide promotion. This got me wondering what type of company it was and why a banana. Are they going bananas over new low prices? Are they a smoothie shop advertising the fresh fruit in their drinks or maybe an ice cream parlor having a run on banana splits? And who has to draw the small straw to wear the costume. I can just picture somebody, feeling pretty silly, but nevertheless happy to be employed, standing on a street corner in a banana costume holding up a sign. What the sign says is just as intriguing as the choice of costume.
I have seen gorillas selling furniture, cows selling chicken and chickens selling mattresses but I have yet to see a banana with something to sell.
To do the math, a deluxe banana costume is currently on sale for $29.97. That means that somewhere in the United States there are soon to be 200 banana people out on the streets. So, if you happen to see a guy in a banana suit, let me know.

Art Mann is the man! He hosts the show Art Mann Presents on HDNet. As a huge fan of his show I love how he manages to find fabulous festivals across the U.S.A. that involve costumes, revelry and debauchery. If someone is dressing up, drinking, partying, celebrating and then puking, Art Mann is there. He has demonstrated that grown-ups have a basic human need to look, feel and act silly once in a while. My husband and I, like many others, live vicariously through Art Mann Presents.
Last night we watched Art Mann Presents as Art traveled to Reno for the Superhero Pub Crawl. For 3 years running, Reno has hosted The Superhero Put Crawl where visitors dress as superheroes, both popular and made-up, and drink their way from bar to bar in the name of charity. Yes, a good time was had by all. Remind me to go to Reno someday.
Some of the other episodes I have thoroughly enjoyed watching (and this is by no means a complete list) are:
- The Gasparilla Pirate Fest - Tampa’s annual festival to celebrate the pirate invasion of Jose Gasparilla. For over 30 years, people dress as pirates and celebrate.
- The Pimp and Ho Ball - sexy costumes and lingerie galore, not to mention all sorts or adult toys and naughty delights.
- Halloween in Hollywood - Need we say more! Just imagine the craziness of Hollywood and an endless variety of Halloween costumes.
- The Doo Dah Parade in Pasadena where marchers and spectators dress in costumes in honor of the arts, organized by the Light Bringer Project, a nonprofit Pasadena-based cultural arts organization.
I strongly suggest you check your local listings for the re-runs of these episodes on HDNet. For those of you who are more adventurous than me, I hope you have an opportunity to attend one of these events. If you do, be sure to get your costumes, accessories and props from Costume SuperCenter.
Art Mann and the wonderful partiers of these great United States have proven that costumes are fun all year round. People just love the opportunity to step outside the box and do something fun and crazy. Dressing up in costumes just seems to go hand-in-hand with having a good time. The show is a great vehicle to showing us that it’s OK to let our hair down and it’s good for the soul, even it is does give you a hangover.
The end of this week, August 16th, marks the 32nd anniversary of Elvis Presley’s death. To honor the king, the costume of the week is the Elvis costume
. His white studded jumpsuit is the epitome of Vegas kitsch. You instantly feel a sense of showmanship when you put it on.
Elvis’ career began more than half a century ago in 1954. His musical style broke racial barriers while his dance moves pushed the boundaries of censorship. He created a pathway for teen rebellion and self expression that is the hallmark of rock music. Now 3 decades after his death his name and likeness are still synonymous with rock and roll, sex appeal and cool.
His great music and die-hard fans have forever engrained him as The King of Rock and Roll. Today, there are over 500 Elvis fan clubs in the United States alone. Las Vegas is home to the Elvis Museum and is overflowing with Elvis impersonators. There is even a chapel where you can be married by an Elvis priest. In Memphis, the birthplace of Elvis, there is Graceland, his home and final resting place, where some 600,000 visitors come each year to tour the mansion and pay tribute to his life. Worldwide, there are innumerable annual Elvis Festivals proving his relevance is still strong.
Costume SuperCenter has dozens of Elvis costumes and Elvis-like costumes to choose from, including pet costumes. Celebrate Elvis Week with Elvis costumes for the entire family. Elvis Halloween costumes are always best sellers. Elvis is in the building!!!!! Visit www.costumesupercenter.com today.
