2 Makeup Videos to Spice Up Your Royal Costumes

March 11, 2009 in Costume Adventures by Greta Garb

YouTube has brought joy to so many lives, and you’re next! In my constant quest to find ways to become the characters of my costumes, I frequently watch YouTube tutorials. You may be surprised with the helpful tips and advice you can get from watching a 10 minute video off of your computer. I use these tips in addition to my costumes to really commit to my character. Even if you don’t do the look exactly as described, you can find great ideas to start you off. Usually the looks call for lots of makeup. If you don’t have a lot of the same colors on hand, you can usually buy a drug store brand for cheap. I recommend splurging for good makeup, especially if you like to dress up often. Good makeup lasts much longer, so you can party all night, without looking like an oily zombie by the end of it.

Costumes Aren’t Just For Halloween

March 9, 2009 in Costume Trends by Greta Garb

Many people think that Halloween is the only time for adults to dress up. And then there’s the rare occasion when you’re invited to a masquerade ball. The very rare… But what about all the other days of your life? Who says you need an excuse to get into costume? One summer, I wore a geisha wig everywhere I went. Here’s some ideas for you.

Kids’ Birthday Party Costume

When it comes to birthday parties, no one has any more fun than children. Children have the ability to live life to the fullest, and are never concerned with editing themselves or being self-conscious. That’s why throwing a costume party is the perfect way to celebrate your child’s next birthday. Not only do costumes carry over the theme of your party, they also take the guess work out of dress codes. As soon as you indicate “costume party” on the invitation, you give permission to others to unleash their creativity.

Don’t Take Yourself Too Seriously!

March 5, 2009 in Costume Adventures by Greta Garb

We’re all saddles with stereo-types. People constantly label each other. Sometimes these labels are accurate, and sometimes they are way off-base. No matter what label you’ve been given, you can find a way to make fun of it– in costume! People call you a gold digger, paint yourself in gold and carry a shovel. People call you immoral, dress up like a nun. By the way, I’m not equating nuns with immorality, but I think dressing up in something totally different that your perceived persona further emphasizes it.

5 Great Costumes for Women (No Sex or Witches Involved)

March 2, 2009 in Costume Adventures by Greta Garb

In the movie version of “Sex and the City,” main characters Carrie Bradshaw and Miranda Hobbes are perusing the costume aisle. Miranda quips, “The only two choices for women– witch and sexy kitten.” Unfortunately this cute line is anchored in truth. Most women believe that in order to look spectacular at a costume party, they have to show a little skin or paint it all green. I’m here to liberate you from those limited choices. It’s the new millennium, and women have so many choices available to them. Here’s a list of them.
