Toy Story 3 Was the Best Yet and So are the Costumes

June 21, 2010 in General Costumes by Lara Burke

Toy Story 3 opened to rave review this past Friday. All reviews were favorable saying that this installment is the best one yet. The storyline appeals to fans of all ages thanks to creative dialogue and great action. It has all the action and suspense of a prison break with the underlying theme of how life goes on. Whether you see it in 3D or 2D, everyone gets entertained and leaves happy.

That’s great news for costume retailers. From a costume standpoint, Toy Story 3 gives the world the opportunity to wear Halloween costumes based on familiar characters that were given larger presence this time around. These character’s costumes are a break away from the tried and true Woody, Jesse, Buzz Lightyear and Mr. Potato Head costumes. Look forward to seeing new standouts this year. They include the Rex costume, The Green Army Man costume, the Squeeze Toy Alien costume, the Ken costume, the Barbie costume and the Little Bo Peep costume. But if you still love the original characters you’ll be happy to know they have updates costumes for 2010.

I personally love the Ken and Barbie characters. For those who have seen the movie you’ll love the chemistry between them. Plus their costumes are fantastic. It makes me wonder what was going on with my own Ken and Barbie when I left them alone in my room.

Toy Story 3 grossed over $109 Million this weekend. That’s great news for Toy Story 3 Halloween Costumes sales. You can find Toy Story 3 costumes at every budget for infants through adults. Toy Story costumes have been popular for the past 15 years. It’s a shame this movie is the final sequel to a great series but we are confident that Toy Story costumes will be a staple in the Halloween costume industry for many, many years to come…”To infinity and beyond!!!!

Create a Costume Using Only Hats, Wigs and Accessories

June 11, 2010 in General Costumes by Lara Burke

You can create a Halloween costume using nothing more than a hat, wig, accessories or a combination of these items. You can wear what you have in your closet with these accessories and turn out one of the best Halloween costumes of all your friends.

Here are our Top Ten Picks for the best costumes that use hats, wigs and accessories only:

Slash – Time has gone by but his look remains the same. Slash is easily the coolest (and most easily recognized) rock star in the world. His style is perfectly defined with the rocker wig with hat which features curly hair built into a black top hat.

Bob Ross – A light brown afro and matching beard is all you need to create the look of the legendary soft spoken artist who make “happy clouds” and soothed us with his almost hypnotic presence. To enhance the costume you can create an artist’s palette from a piece of cardboard.

Billy Mays – It’s easy to transform yourself into America’s favorite pitchman. If you don’t have black hair you can use a wash out hair color paired with a black beard and moustache. Wear a blue button down shirt and a pair of khaki pants. Optional: carry a container of Oxy Clean.

Ozzy Ozbourne – Spend this Halloween as the rock and roll Prince of Darkness. Our long straight wig looks just like his hair. Add some round sunglasses and you’ve got it. We can’t help you with the accent but if you just mumble gibberish you should be a passable Ozzy.

White Trash GirlThe Beer Can Roller White Trash Wig just screams trailer park. Search your own closet for an old pair of ripped jeans and a shirt that would suit the wig.

Slipknot – Slipknot is the thrash metal band. You and your friends can wear Slipknot masks with your own black shirt and pants to. There are four masks available.

Sexy Witch – Are you looking for an excuse to wear your little black dress? If so, then all you’ll need is a witch’s hat. Witch’s hats are available in several styles and price ranges. It will instantly turn your sexy black dress into a sexy witch costume.

Twilight/Vampire Diaries – all you need for this is a vampire makeup kit and a set of vampire teeth. This will give you the deathly pale vampire look. Wear what ever you like for clothing.

Train wreck Wigs – I use the term “train wreck” to collectively describe the two wigs that define women who are known for their exploits and especially their hair dos. The Eight is Too Much Wig and the Rehab Wig so you can dress as Kate Gosselin or Amy Winehouse, respectively.

Lady Godiva – the long Lady Godiva wig covers you from head to toe. We suggest you wear a flesh toned body stocking with it but that is completely up to you. ;)

If you put your mind to it you can find some amazing accessories that are Halloween costumes all by themselves. You’ll make a statement and you may even save a few bucks.

5 Reasons Why I Love Paul Rudd

June 8, 2010 in Uncategorized by Lara Burke

Paul Rudd is one of those actors that are genuinely likeable. In addition to being adorable, he just has an easy way about him. His movie credits are many and I believe him to be one of those truly underrated actors.

I thought about it and came up with 5 reasons why I love Paul Rudd:

1. He makes you love the sweet, love able underdog like the when he was the step brother in Clueless or as the soon to be married man with no BFF in I Love You, Man.

2. His ability to wear his facial expressions like costumes. You can tell just by looking at him exactly what his character is thinking. You can feel the love in his heart and he can even make himself look stoned like he did with his Hawaiian Surfer dude character in Saving Sarah Marshall.

3. Like another favorite actor of mine, Johnny Depp, Rudd made his film debut in a horror flick. For those of you who don’t recall the movie was Halloween: The Curse of Mike Myers.

4. This quote from Entertainment Weekly: “I’ve always felt like I’m the kind of actor that some people might recognize, but they probably don’t know my name,” Rudd says. “I don’t have a big drive to be ‘the guy.’” This is exactly it, I think. He’s not beggin’ for love, so we wanna give it to him even more. Damn human nature!” How could you not love a guy who’s famous and NOT completely full of himself? TOO CUTE!!

5. He goes both ways. No that’s not a reference to the sizable number of gay parts he’s played on shows like SNL. It’s the way he can go both comedy and drama. Also, the way he can master both stage and screen. Variety is the spice of life.

Some many actors today are overrated. When you find an actor who is both talented and underrated if makes it easy to route for him. I hope to see him in more movies and in varied roles in the future.

In Part One we gave you 5 tips for getting your luau party started. Now that you have your Luau invitations, luau costumes and luau decorations you will need to have some delicious food to serve and games to play.

Hamburgers and hot dogs have their place at every Barbeque but a Luau should be special. You’ve gone through all the trouble to set the atmosphere to its time to let the food create the mood. While your guests are not busy filling their bellies they should have some entertainment. Luau games are great for laughs and helping everyone let their hair down.

  1. There are many websites on the internet that are an excellent source for Hawaiian recipes. Check some of them out to find one that appeals to you.
  2. If cooking authentic Hawaiian Food is too daunting or time consuming for you a terrific alternative is catered Chinese food. Stick to dished that have cross-over into Hawaiian culture like sweet and sour chicken with lots of pineapple chunks, spare ribs, teriyaki beef on a stick and fried rice. Skip the soup and fortune cookies.
  3. For dessert go for a tropical twist. Try skewered pineapples and bananas sprinkled with brown sugar and cinnamon and grilled to caramelized perfection. Serve them with Tahitian vanilla ice cream.
  4. Set up a Limbo Game and play is to some authentic luau music.
  5. For the kids, simple games like musical beach towels or pass the coconut will keep them well entertained. Have an assortment of Hawaiian prizes to give away like maracas, straw hats and sunglasses.
  6. For the grown ups there are a bunch of Hawaiian word games that facilitate mingling and teach your guests a variety to Hawaiian words.
  7. Don’t forget the Pina Coladas and Mai Tais. You can buy mixes at your local market or make them from scratch. For the kids, make frozen virgin Pina Coladas.
