What Does a Bun in the Oven and Bacon and Eggs Have in Common?

May 29, 2009 in General Costumes by Mascarade Marla

No, it’s not a warm bacon and egg sandwich. They have a good time in common!

I’m going through and just searching the many costumes trying to get ideas of my next best joke or party or whatever (I’m not saying what) and I’m finding some really funny ones.

This one is a spitting image of my ex-husband. Too funny, he looks just like he did at a party we threw one Halloween. And yes, on a scale from 1 to 10, he also looked like a 2.

Which Oz Character Are You?

May 27, 2009 in Celebrity Costumes by Mascarade Marla

I remember my mom getting so excited when the Wizard of Oz was going to be the movie of the week on TV. She would always make a big deal about it. It was one of her favorite movies too.

As a little girl Dorothy wasn’t my favorite character, although, Toto was a cool little dog so I’m a little surprised I didn’t want to be Dorothy instead of the good witch on Halloween. This tomboy thought Glinda the Good Witch was beautiful and sparkly. She was the most beautiful woman I had ever seen and she had magical powers. It must have been the magical powers that intrigued me; I was hooked on Bewitched at the time too… lol… I would only dress up like Glinda though, never Dorothy.

Come to an Exotic Theme Party Set in Ancient Rome

May 26, 2009 in Special Occasions by Ren Faire Reese

The King’s palace is a fantastic place to hold formal parties and dances and he loves making merriment with the other nobles and aristocrats under his rule. No expense is spared in the gala formal dances or the feasts and banquets that often accompany such a special event on the King’s calendar.

Wicked Witch or Good Witch or Hot Witch

May 25, 2009 in Costume Adventures by Mascarade Marla

Tough decision…lol

All make for a good time and can be a lot of fun. Take a wicked witch for instance; just about everyone has a little wickedness in them. We all know the bad guy always has fun, at least up until they get caught or lose.

Seriously? No Clue About Animal House!

May 21, 2009 in Celebrity Costumes by Mascarade Marla

Sticking to my theme of Saturday Night Live memories and one of my absolute favs from the show (John Belushi….there has been no one like him and never could be) it brought to mind Animal House. What a great movie; the “Death Mobile”, the toga costume party, the food fight, the disastrous parade, and so much more. All left such an impression on me.

A Maiden’s Tale from King Arthur’s Court

May 20, 2009 in Costume Adventures by Ren Faire Reese

Many times in my daydreams I have longed to be a maiden in the time of King Arthur and have a dashing prince like Sir Lancelot rescue me. That time period is such a romantic and beautiful time. I understand that life was definitely harder than now because people didn’t have all the modern conveniences that we enjoy today. Still, the medieval period was a time for romance, chivalry, beauty, and style. Fashion was at an ultimate peak during the King Arthur era, in my opinion. Let us take a little journey into one maiden’s life and share a little time with her.

Is that a Landshark?

May 19, 2009 in Costume Adventures by Mascarade Marla

Again…Saturday Night Live ruled in the 70’s. The humor lives on today. A perfect example is the skit of the Landshark. This out of water, land roaming “creature” would knock on the door and try its best to get the person in the skit to open the door.

Rainbow Gatherings Bring Back the Hippie Days

May 18, 2009 in Costume Adventures by Ren Faire Reese

If you grew up in the sixties and seventies, then you probably remember the “hippie” era. Flower children with long hair wore patched bell bottoms; they wore bead necklaces; ran barefoot and put flowers in their hair. They lived together in communes as one loving family all sharing together and caring for one another. Hippies emerged under the idealistic movement seeking that peaceful utopia of the promised land in Zion. Many cultures, religions, tribes and peoples called for an end to war and they put on the flower power sharing peace and love, in hopes the rest of the world would catch on. Were you part of this peace and love evolution?
